East Germany made its only appearance in the FIFA World Cup in 1974. They topped the group which had West Germany and scored three goals in the entire tournament. Joachim Streich, Martin Hoffmann and Jürgen Sparwasser (he scored the winner against West Germany) were the goal scorers.
