In 1982, Prince Fahid, the Kuwaiti FA President got involved when Kuwait’s team plea (they stopped upon hearing a whistle from the stands) was ignored by the referee. The Prince’s involvement ensured the French goal was disallowed. It didn’t matter as France won 4-1, Prince Fahid was fined £8000. The biggest loser was the referee Miroslav Stupar, as he was banned from officiating after that match.
