At the 1930 World Cup, only 13 teams took part. The hosts Uruguay defeated Argentina in the finals. The third place was claimed by the USA, their best result to date and later went on to the host the 1994 World Cup and will be co-hosting the 2026 World Cup alongside Canada and Mexico.
