In Christianity, Saint Sebastian was a saint and martyr who was one of the victims of Roman emperor Diocletian’s order to persecute Christians in the 3rd century AD. He is depicted in literature and paintings as a person tied to a post or tree and shot with arrows. Among Catholics, he is the patron saint of archers, athletes and of a holy death.
