Xenotransplantation is the transplantation of tissues or organs from one species to another. The name comes from the Greek word xenos meaning foreign. In 1984, Stephanie Fae Beauclair, an American infant born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome became the first to receive a heart transplant, a heart of a baboon. Though the operation was successful, Baby Fae could not live longer.
