In 1950, Ginger Rogers, at age 39 took part in the mixed doubles at the US national championships at Forest Hills (US Open) alongside Frank Shields. They lost in the first round. Frank Shields was more accomplished in tennis as he was the runner-up in the men’s singles at Wimbledon in 1931 and captained the American Davis team later on. Many of us might recognise Frank’s granddaughter Brooke Shields, who was married to Agassi briefly.
