Ibhitaj Muhammad, an American fencer took part in the individual sabre event at the 2016 Rio Olympics. She became the first Muslim American to wear a hijab while competing for the United States in the Olympics. She also earned a bronze medal in the team sabre event, thereby becoming the first Muslim-American athlete to win a medal at the Olympics.
