The 1916 German organisers of Olympics (there was just Summer Olympics back then) had plans to hold a separate Skiing event to be held in the Black Forest in February. The Swedes were among the first to protest and oppose the idea. Result: World War I silenced the discussions as the Olympics event was cancelled.
