Johan Kriek has won the men’s singles title of Australian Open twice. He became the first South African to win the Australian Open singles title in 1981 by defeating USA’s Steve Denton. The next year, the same two were the finalists and Kriek repeated his 1981 feat. By the start of the 1982 tournament, Kriek was a US citizen.
