The 2001 movie, The Shipping News (starring Kevin Spacey, Julianne Moore, Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett) was based on the 1993 novel of the same name written by E. Annie Proulx. It won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and other awards. The author acknowledged the inspiration of the 1944 work, The Ashley Book of Knots for The Shipping News.
