The 1977 movie Slapshot was interspersed with fact and fiction. One of the facts was the inspiration of the professional hockey club Charlestown Chiefs in the movie was Johnstown Jets, based out of Johnstown, Pennsylvania. The Jets was founded in 1950 and by the time the movie was released, the Jets had withered out due to economic reasons.
