In the movie Chariots of Fire, the character of Lord Lindsay was inspired by the life of a real-life athlete, Lord David George Brownlow Cecil Burghley. Lord Burghley took part in 1924 Paris Olympics without any win. In the subsequent Olympic editions, he won a gold in the 400m hurdles event in 1928 and a silver in the 4×400 m relay in 1932.
