The name ‘citrus’ came from the Greek word ‘kedros’ and later changed in Latin to ‘citrus’, and some specialists have also traced it to the citron tree in Africa that produced lemon-like-fruit. In acid form, citric acid was discovered in 1784 by Carl Wilhelm Scheele.
