Movies became a source of entertainment during the Depression of late 1920’s. To build on its popularity, William R. Wilkerson started Hollywood’s first newspaper that combined daily trade and entertainment. He named it ‘The Hollywood Reporter’, which became a hit for his Tradeviews column. The newspaper folded with Wilkerson’s death in 1962. It was relaunched in 2010 in both print and online formats.
