At the request of British Admiral unit, an animated training film was made by the filmmakers John Halas and Joy Batchelor. The aim was to attract the audience to join the Royal Navy. Though Handling Ships was never released in cinemas, the movie has been acknowledged to be the first feature-length animated movie in British animation.
