Pondicherry

Pondicherry is also known by its local name Puducherry was one of the trading destination dating back to 1st century A.D. While Romans did trade, centuries later, the French East India company was first to colonise Pondicherry. It exchanged hands between France and Britain and subsequently, it remained a part of French India until 1954, when it become a part of India. The official agreement was signed in 1962 and since then it has remained a Union Territory of India.
