In the 16th century, there were a group of monks dressed in brown hooded robes who were known by the name ‘capuchins’. The name came from the Italian word ‘capuccio’ which means ‘hood’. The beverage ‘cappuccino’ gets its name (in the late 1940s) from these monks’ attire as the colour of cappuccino supposedly resembled the brown hoods of Capuchins!
