At the 1949 Oscars ceremony, Laurence Olivier got himself directed for the Best Actor Oscar for the 1948 movie Hamlet. The movie won four Oscars – Best Art Direction (Black and White), Best Costume Design (Black and White) apart from Best Picture and Best Actor. Hamlet was also the first non-American to win the Best Picture Oscar. Unfortunately, Olivier was not present at the awards ceremony, Douglas Fairbanks Jr. accepted on his behalf for Best Actor and Robert Montgomery accepted for Best Picture.
