FACT FOOD #921

Georges Clemenceau, who served as the French prime minister from 1906 to 1909, remained vehemently anti-German, arguing for greater military preparedness and tighter alliances with Britain and Russia. He returned to the prime ministership in 1917 at the request of President Raymond Poincare. After his retirement, in his published memoirs, The Grandeur and Misery of Victory, Clemenceau predicted another war with Germany would start by 1940. He died a good eleven years before his prediction came true!
