In 1937, the U.S. Post Office issued a commemorative stamp in the name of Virginia Dare, to celebrate her 350th birth anniversary. Why is she famous? She happens to be the first child born to English parents in the New World. She was given the name ‘Virginia’ after the Colony of Virginia, the first permanently settled English colony in North America.
