During the American revolution, the Franklin father-son combo were on the opposite sides of the Independence war. Benjamin Franklin was one of the signatories of the Declaration of Independence and one of the founding fathers of modern America, while his son William remained a loyalist while serving as the Governor of New Jersey, the last colonial to hold that post. After the independence war, William was imprisoned and later went into exile to London.
