The Arabian Nights (known as One Thousand and One Nights) became popular in Europe courtesy of Antoine Galland, whose translated work appeared in 1704. The work was a hit with the French public and many critics have pointed out, the timing of his work coincided with the time when French public indulged in fairy stories.
