In North America, the neuromuscular disorder of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, named after the former New York Yankees legendary baseball player, Lou Gehrig. He was contracted with ALS, and the condition forced him into early retirement.
