In the 1940s, the USA and the USSR were engaged in conducting nuclear tests. Once the Soviet Union completed their tests successfully in 1949, the United States moved on to test the hydrogen bomb and it was tested on Eniwetok atoll in the Pacific in 1952. Ivy Mike was the codename given to the project.
