Elizabeth Taylor in consultation with her third husband Michael Todd had decided the 1958 film ‘Cat on a Hot Tin Roof’ to be her final movie. There was a verbal agreement in place between the studio MGM (with whom Liz Taylor was contracted) and Todd. After Todd’s death due to an accident, the MGM forced Liz to make a movie in order to fulfill her terms in the contract. BUtterfield 8 was the movie, and although she hated the movie and the director, Liz did win an Academy award for Best Actress for the role of Gloria Wandrous.
