FACT FOOD #809

The word ‘pidgin’ used in lingustics appeared in print around 1850s. The closest meaning to this word is derived from the Chinese sounding word for ‘business’. Another possibility for the origin could be from the word ‘pigeon’, as it was used for sending written messages before the postal services and other telecommunication platforms came into being. In short, pidgin is a common ground (simplified language) between two countries without any common language.
