FACT FOOD #807

Cape Horn is located on the southern tip of Chile in South America. The name is courtesy of the Dutch merchant and navigator Willem Schouten, who rounded the cape in 1616 and named it after Hoorn, his birthplace in North Holland. Before Schouten, Ferdinand Magellan and Sir Walter Rayleigh had sighted earlier, the name (Kape Hoorn) given by Schouten has remained to this day.
