Emperor Charlemagne aka Charles the Great was known by many titles, one such being the first Holy Roman Emperor, as he was the first to be recognised (800 AD) after the downfall of the Western Roman Empire in the 5th century AD. He ruled a significant part of Europe which went on to become France, Germany, Belgium and Netherlands, hence he is also known as Father of Europe (or atleast the Western Europe).
