Rus were a group of people who went on to lend their name to the lands that came to be known as Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. The name ‘Rus’ comes from the Old Norse term meaning ‘the men who row’ indicating the primary method used to steer their way through the Eastern Europe rivers.
