Basel Mission, a defunct Christian missionary society was founded in 1815. Its originated as German Missionary Society before undergoing a change in its name to Basel Evangelical Missionary Society finally settling on the more popular name. The organisation was established by the Basel Calvinists and Württemberg Lutherans as a vow if Basel was saved from Napolean’s conquest.
