The Boxing Day Test match is a big deal in Australia. Many cricket fans look forward to this annual occasion at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Though there were few Tests that coincided on the Boxing Day, it was the 1974 Ashes Test that kicked off the modern tradition and it continued in 1975. It took another five years when Melbourne Cricket Club and the Australian cricket team secured the rights to start the test on 26th December each year. In 1989, a one-day international was played instead of a Test match.
