Indian was a former airline company before it was merged into Air India in 2011. Prior to 2005, the airlines went by the name of Indian Airlines and it was established when the 1953 Air Corporations Act came into effect. Airways India, Air Services of India, Bharat Airways, Deccan Airways, Himalayan Aviation, Indian National Airways, and Kalinga Airlines, the pre-independence domestic airlines merged to form Indian Airlines.
