Diego Velázquez was a Spanish painter who achieved fame as a portrait artist during the Spanish Golden Age. His paintings stretched to rendition of historical and cultural scenes and his known for the masterpiece Las Meninas. Currently housed in the Museo del Prado in Madrid, the Las Meninas is the Spanish term for The Ladies in Waiting and was completed in the year 1656.
