The first stock ticker was unveiled in New York city in 1867. The concept was that of Edward Calahan, who used the help of telegraph machine to print the stock quotes on streams of paper tape. It used Morse code and two years later, Thomas Edison came up with Universal Stock Ticker that used alphamumeric numbers and printed one character per second.
