Simone Signoret, the French actress became the first French person to win an Oscar Best Actress for her role of Alice Aisgill in Room at the Top. She has also written a novel ‘Adieu Volodia’, a novel about a group of Russian and Ukrainian Jewish immigrants and their lives working in the Paris film industry in the years 1926-1945.
