While in Lisbon, Portugal, you must visit Bertrand Bookstore, the world’s oldest bookstore. This treasure trouve was opened in 1732 by Peter Faure, who wanted the bookstore to be a hub of Lisbon’s art and intellectual scene. Bertrand Brothers accquired it from Peter Faure a few decades later, and invested in owning a printing press, conducted workshops on printing and writing and even invented their own font. Currently, there are over 50 stores covering Portugal.
