The Chinese term kuaizi is used for ‘chopstick’ and the Japanese call it hashi. The English word ‘chopstick’ comes from the Chinese Pidgin English, ‘chop chop’ means quickly and it makes sense that chopsticks are sticks meant to eat food ‘chop chop’.
