The University Challenge was the answer to create an intellectual quiz, that was less glamourous and paid more attention to the knowledge quotient of the participants. Granada Television introduced this show in 1962 with Bamber Gascoigne as the quiz master. The show was stopped for seven years before BBC revived it, this time Jeremy Paxman as the quiz master.
