The Michigan brothers Frederick Stanley Upton and Louis Upton along with their uncle Emory started a machine company which they termed it as Upton Machine Company. In 1929, the company was renamed to Nineteen Hundred Machine Company (after the merger with Nineteen Hundred Washer Company) and in 1950, it was changed to Whirlpool Corporation, a name which stands to this day.
