Alumnimum, one of the most abundant metals available in the earth’s crust was extremely valuable at one point in time because it was rarely found in its elemental state. The price of the metal went down thanks to Hall-Heroult process (1886), through which the extraction of this element from bauxite became considerably cheaper.
