The term ‘Holocaust’ is derived from the Greek word for an animal sacrifice where the whole animal is completely burned (Olos in Greek is whole and kaustos is burnt) and offered to the Gods. In recent times, the word ‘holocaust’ is used in a generic sense to denote great massacres.
