Two disciplines for women made its debut at the 1984 LA Olympics – Marathon and Rhythmic Gymnastics. Joan Benoit won the marathon gold medal in 2 hours 24 minutes 52 seconds. Lori Fung from Canada won the first all-around gold medal in women’s rhythmic gymnastics.
