Smells like Nirvana was a parody based on the popular hit “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by the Seattle Grunge band Nirvana. This was a comeback song for Al Yankovic, who obtained permission from Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain to carry out this parody.
Kurt Cobain initially thought the song would be about food.
