In Greek mythology, Cerberus, the multi-headed watch-dog was the guardian of River Styx, preventing the dead from leaving the underworld. The name Cerberus is the Latinised version of the Greek word ‘Kerberos’. Digging deeper, the Greek origins of the word is unknown. However, there is a theory that, it originates from the Sanskrit words karbarah, sabalah, which means (spotted, speckled). In Indian mythology, Sabalah was the name of one of the two dogs of Yama, the god of death.
