In Greek mythology, the Goddess Artemis was the daughter of Zeus and Leto and the twin sister of Apollo. The elder of the twins, she was the protector of young girls until they became married. Often depicted with a bow and arrow, she is the Greek Goddess of the hunt, wilderness, moon and archery. In Roman mythology, Diana is the equivalent of Artemis, possessing similar qualities.
