Dora the Explorer, one of the popular preschool heroine on children’s television, debuted in August, 2000. The inspiration for the name Dora Marquez was exploradora, the Spanish word (feminine) for explorer and the last name Marquez comes from the acclaimed Colombian novelist Gabriel García Márquez. The series was last aired in 2014.
