FACT FOOD #578

Fruit of the Loom, an American clothing company was born in 1851 when brothers Benjamin and Robert Knight started producing cotton cloth and textiles from their first mill. The brothers started their operations from Warwick, Rhode Island. The idea of fruits on the cloth was courtesy of their friend’s daughter, who painted images of apples and applied them to the bolts of cloth. The design was a instant hit and a patent was granted in 1871 for their brand. Currently, the company is owned by Berkshire Hathaway (since 2002), controlled by Warren Buffet.
