FACT FOOD #522

Cracker Jack, considered by many as one of the first junk food in United States was the brainchild of a German immigrant Frederick William Rueckheim. Along with his brother Louis Rueckheim, they began selling a food item consisting of popcorn, peanuts and molasses confection which became a hit at the 1893 Chicago’s World Fair. The name ‘Cracker Jack’ was a result of a salesman exclaiming upon tasting this snack. F.W. Rueckheim was quick to trademark this name which has remained to this day. Frito Lay purchased Cracker Jack in 1997.
