FACT FOOD #511

On 26th Feb 2011, the Reserve Bank of India released a INR 150 commemorative coin to mark 150 years of Income tax in India. The coin bears the portrait of Chanakya, a lotus and honeybee. The finance ministry said “Governments should collect income tax like a honeybee, which extracts the right amount of nectar from the flower, so that both of them can survive. Lotus was chosen because of it being India’s national flower and Chanakya was honoured because of his work in economics ‘Arthasastra’.
