Leila Seth, the mother of the famous writer Vikram Seth has the distinction of being the first woman to top the London bar exams in 1958. Many firsts came her way as in 1978, she was appointed as the first woman judge on the Delhi High Court and later in 1991, chief justice of Himachal Pradesh. Her illustrious career and the struggles of her personal life are chronicled in her autobiography ‘On Balance’.
